THE BIG J LAUNCHES BATTLESHIP WINE
BATTLESHIP RED AND BATTLESHIP WHITE WINES, AVAILABLE DURING EVENTS AND ONLINE, WILL ALSO RAISE MONEY FOR THE SHIP
CAMDEN, NJ – May 5, 2010 – Two new recruits have arrived at the Battleship New Jersey. The non-profit museum and
memorial announced that Battleship Red and Battleship White wines are now available for catered events aboard the
Battleship and for purchase at the ship or online.
The Battleship wines – grown, produced and bottled in New Jersey by Auburn Road Vineyards in Salem County – will be featured at all private and public events on board the ship. The wines can also be purchased by the bottle at any event that takes place aboard the Battleship, or online at www.auburnroadvineyards.com. A portion of each bottle sold will go directly
to the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial, located on the Camden Waterfront, NJ.
“The Battleship Red and Battleship White wines will compliment any meal or reception aboard the Big J,” said Jim Schuck, CEO/President of the Battleship New Jersey. “These wines are high quality and delicious. We expect guests at events on board the ship to purchase some bottles to bring home.” Schuck added that the Battleship is working with Auburn Road and the State of New Jersey to sell the wine at retail liquor stores, restaurants and even the ship’s gift shop – the “Battleshop” –
in the very near future.
“We are extremely proud and excited to help support the Battleship New Jersey,” said Scott Donnini, co-owner of Auburn Road. “We will be taking Battleship Red and White with us to festivals and events all across the state to help promote the Battleship and make sure people are aware of her amazing history. She has had a truly extraordinary career – and she’s still
here for people to experience.”
The Battleship White Wine, made from the Cayuga grape, is a light, dry white wine with great fruit flavors and a hint of apricot. Terrific with all types of seafood, cheeses or just to have a glass by itself. Best if served chilled.
Battleship Red is a dry, medium bodied red wine with a beautiful ruby color and nice, rounded tannins. It is made primarily from Merlot grapes blended with a small amount of Chambourcin and is great served with meats, pasta and cheeses.
A Wine Tasting event is scheduled for Thursday, May 20 at 7 pm on the forecastle (forward deck) of the Battleship. Tickets are $10 per person and include one sample glass of each wine, some cheese and fruit appetizers, and live music. To reserve a ticket, contact the Battleship Ticket Office at 1-866-877-6262 ext 107.
