WWII VICTORY DAY ABOARD THE BIG J
DANCE/BBQ, WWII MILITARY VEHICLES, RE-ENACTMENTS AND MORE ON SAT., AUG. 14
CAMDEN, NJ- On Saturday August 14, 2010, the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial will celebrate the 65th Anniversary of the End of World War II with a special WWII Victory Day. A Dance and BBQ will take place on the ship’s fantail during the evening, while the day will feature WWII military vehicles, a re-enactment of the surrender of the Japanese, and more!
The Battleship will hold a special WWII Victory Day Dance and BBQ from 5 pm to 9 pm on the fantail on Saturday, Aug. 14. The event will feature an Andrews Sisters performance by the Romano Sisters, and will be emceed by a 1940’s-era disc jockey. A bugler from “Buglers Across America” will also play TAPS atop turret #3 at 1900 hours (7 pm) as part of a nationwide effort to perform TAPS in every time zone. Guests will also enjoy a delicious barbecue meal, a cash bar, dancing and a main deck tour of the ship. Tickets are $24 per person and are available by calling 1-866-877-6262 ext. 107.
During the day, the Battleship will come to life. A re-enactment of the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri, complete with Gen. Douglas MacArthur, will take place aboard the Battleship New Jersey at 1pm on Saturday. Guests visiting the ship will also be able to experience WWII military vehicles on the pier, meet members of the Tuskegee Airmen from noon to 3 pm, and check out special WWII artifacts on display in the ship’s wardroom. Guests may experience all of these activities with any tour ticket for the Battleship.

The Battleship New Jersey is open daily from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm for guided and audio tours. Take the Waterfront Connection shuttle from Philadelphia to the Camden Waterfront for just a $2 round-trip fare. The shuttle leaves from the Independence Visitor Center daily from 10:45 am to 6 pm.
