BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY RE-OPENS FOR GUIDED AND SELF-GUIDED TOURS ON FRIDAY, FEB. 6TH
RED LIGHTS FOR NATIONAL WEAR RED FOR WOMEN DAY ON FRIDAY AND BUFFALO SOLDIERS PRESENTATION ON SATURDAY HIGHLIGHT THE BIG J’S RE-OPENING

DETAILS: The Battleship New Jersey will re-open for guided and self-guided tours to the public on Friday, Feb. 6th, with the first tour launching at 10 am. Experience the new City at Sea Guided Tour and see spaces like the TV Studio, Machine Shops, Medical facilities, and more. Or take the General Quarters Audio Tour and hear sound effects, accounts of life at sea from former crew members and even music. Our nation’s largest and most decorated battleship will be open for tours on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from 10 am to 3 pm through Mar. 9th. The ship will open everyday for tours from 9:30 am to 3 pm beginning Mar. 13th.
On the evening of Friday, Feb. 6th, the Battleship will turn her lights red to support American Heart Association’s Sixth Annual National Wear Red Day for Women. On this day, women throughout the country, as well as schools, corporations, businesses, hospitals, towns, local and state legislators, members of the media, teachers, and people from all walks of life will be wearing red to focus attention on the No. 1 killer of women – cardiovascular disease. According to the American Heart Association, a woman is ten times as likely to die from heart disease as from breast cancer.
On Saturday, Feb. 7th, the NJ Chapter of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club will give a special Black History Month presentation to guests in the ship‘s Wardroom at 11 am. This special event documents the history of the Buffalo Soldiers and their importance in our nation’s military. The presentation – free to anyone touring the Battleship -- will include artifacts provided by the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club. Further, the Battleship’s Education Department will feature a lesson plan based on the service of African Americans in the US Military throughout February. The National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Clubs were created in 1999 to consolidate the educational and charitable efforts of many African American motorcyclists across the United States. United by a love for the sport of motorcycling and a common background of military service or uniformed civilian service, the members of this organization dedicate countless hours of their spare time to teaching the history of the Buffalo Soldiers to students and adults in schools, churches, orphanages, senior citizen facilities and youth organizations across America and Canada. There are currently 67 chapters in the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Clubs including two in Canada.
The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial, located on the Camden Waterfront, NJ, will re-open for guided and self-guided tours on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays beginning Feb. 6th through March 9th. Families, Scouts, youth groups and more can also spend the night aboard the Battleship in the award-winning overnight encampment program.
