CELEBRATE FLIGHT AT THE SIXTH ANNUAL AVIATION DAY SATURDAY, AUGUST 1
In-water Coast Guard demonstration, FAA displays, models and more will be featured in this year’s event- all included with the purchase of any tour ticket.
CAMDEN, N.J. – July 22, 2009 – The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial and David Schultz Airshows LLC have teamed up for the sixth annual Battleship New Jersey Aviation Day on Saturday August 1, 2009 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Aviation Day allows visitors touring the ship to see some of the best aviation displays from the regional aviation museums and private military collectors in the Philadelphia area. This event will be included in the tour ticket price to the Battleship New Jersey and is a wonderful way to see the military history from World War II through the current day.
Scheduled in the air for fly-bys are the NJ State Police Helicopter and the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Blimp will also be making an appearance. Also on the day’s schedule is a Search and Rescue Demonstration by the United States Coast Guard. On the ground, the FAA will display an air safety exhibit on the ship’s fantail and local aviation museums will have displays along with area re-enactors on the Pier. All events are subject to weather and national security restrictions and are subject to change.
In addition to the festival displays, the Battleship boasts its own restored Seasprite Helicopter, which is permanently displayed near the fantail of the ship. This exhibit has a recently-constructed viewing deck so visitors can get an up-close view of this impressive craft and learn about its connection to the battleship.
Berthed on the Camden Waterfront across the Delaware River from Center City Philadelphia, the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial is a non-profit historic ship museum that offers guided and audio tours daily. Overnight encampments, group packages, and space for meetings or social events are also available aboard our nation’s most decorated battleship. Ride NJ Transit’s Riverline to the Battleship New Jersey. Visit www.riverline.com for fares and schedules. For more information on the ship’s many programs, visit www.battleshipnewjersey.org.
