Learn all about armor! In this special edition of our Small Sailors tour, we’re collaborating with the Center for Aquatic Sciences!
Engineers often take inspiration from nature when designing protective systems. During this interactive tour, educators from the Center for Aquatic Sciences will introduce guests to animals that use armor to protect themselves. Meet some of these fascinating animals, including species that live right here in New Jersey!
After meeting the animals, guests will tour Battleship New Jersey and learn about the thick steel armor that protected the sailors aboard her. Discover which parts of the ship were most critical to protect and see how engineers strategically placed armor to balance protection with speed and performance.
Small Sailors tours are designed for children in 2nd through 6th grade, but guests of all ages are welcome to participate.
