On Wednesday, March 27, the Battleship New Jersey left the Paulsboro Marine Terminal, where 2,000 tons of water were added to her for ballast, and successfully cruised north on the Delaware River to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. The Battleship was guided by four tug boats from McAllister Towing and took about two hours to traverse the river to the Naval Shipyard, where she is now berthed in Dock #3, the same dock she was launched from on Dec. 7, 1942.
The Battleship is expected to be at dry dock for 60 days for preventive maintenance. If all goes well, the Battleship will return to the Camden Waterfront in late May/early June. Don’t worry — there will be a return event!
Dry Dock guided tours will be available on Saturdays and Sundays beginning April 6 while the ship is in dry dock. For tickets, click here.
