Battleship New Jersey Privacy Disclosure Language

v. 2026

We do not sell your personal data for monetary compensation. As described in the chart above, we may share your personal data by allowing third parties, such as online advertising services, social networks, and data analytics providers, to collect personal data via automated technologies and cookies on websites and apps. From time to time, we may also exchange or share personal information, including name and contact information, with cooperatives or other charities. This allows us to better utilize our resources to reach new donors and audiences in a more cost effective manner. These sharing activities may be considered a “sale” or processing of personal data for targeted advertising under U.S. state privacy laws. You may have the right to opt out of this sharing of your personal data as described below in the Your Privacy Rights section and on these platforms through their privacy policies.

To expand our donor base we participate in nonprofit data cooperatives. Data cooperatives are membership-based services offered by vendors that enable cooperative members to pool personal information about their respective supporters to model and identify new prospective supporters and/or to deepen engagement with existing donors. When we participate in data cooperatives, we may share your personal information; this may include contact and interaction information, for example, donation history, with data-cooperative vendors in exchange for the ability to contact individuals who are prospective supporters and/or modeled information about existing supporters who also support other cooperative member nonprofits. This practice of sharing supporter personal information with and through a data cooperative is a longstanding nonprofit practice that enables nonprofits to maintain a stronger supporter base while lowering costs by targeting communications to individuals who have high likelihood to be interested in hearing from them.

We will use your personal information to provide you with “marketing” information about donating to the organization, becoming a member, volunteer communications, organization updates, general news, and items of interest. We work with third party platforms in order to serve targeted advertisements on their networks. We may also make this information available to third parties for marketing purposes, including our marketing consultants that provide special programs or services we think you might find interesting or beneficial. Sometimes we may also share donor names and mailing addresses with other nonprofit organizations on a limited basis in exchange for limited access to the names and mailing addresses of their donors. Similarly, we participate in data cooperatives composed of many marketers and may share donor names, contact information, and donation information with the organization operating the cooperative; in this case the other marketers are not provided with access to the donation information, but it is used internally by the data cooperative to predict the causes, products, and services that are most likely to interest donors.

Your personal preferences are very important to us. You, as a donor, may at any time have your name excluded from any donor list exchange activity or cooperative database usage. Please email us at info@battleshipnewjersey.org.

We collect information you voluntarily provide directly to us, information that we collect automatically when you interact with us, and information collected from third parties. The categories of Personal Information that we collect and the purposes for which we collect that information are described below. We may disclose, exchange, or sell certain Personal Information we collect to organizations such as marketers, magazine publishers, retailers, and non-profit organizations that want to market products or services to you or solicit donations. If you do not want us to disclose, exchange, or sell your Personal Information with third parties, please contact
info@battleshipnewjersey.org.

We share your personal information, such as your name, postal address, and records of your transactions with us, with providers of data cooperative marketing services that serve carefully vetted marketers, which we refer to as Data Cooperatives. Data Cooperatives use the information provided by participating marketers to provide more relevant donation opportunities and marketing to consumers and reduce wasted donor outreach. We believe this allows us to more efficiently find new donors and serve existing donors to more effectively further our mission. No individual transaction information is shared with the other marketers, but rather it is used by the Data Cooperatives to provide services to all marketers who participate in the cooperative. More specifically, we share this information with Data Cooperatives so that they can analyze your donation patterns and determine what sort of causes and products are likely to appeal to you, and Data Cooperatives share your name and contact information with fundraisers who may represent those causes and marketers who may offer such products.

You may receive information and materials regarding products offered by Data Cooperative clients. The list of these clients changes frequently, but includes non-profit organizations, large and small, retailers of apparel, collectables, gardening products, gadgets and technology products, health and beauty products, household goods and/or home interiors goods, as well as publishers and consumer services companies, among others. You agree to the sharing of the above-described information with Data Cooperatives and their clients and to be eligible to receive such materials when you sign up with us. If you wish to request that we do not share your personal information for third party marketing, such as through Data Cooperatives, please email us at
info@battleshipnewjersey.org.

We and our service providers may use Personal Information for the following purposes. We share Personal Information (including name, contact information, and donation history) in the context of cooperatives managed by third-party vendors. We may also rent names directly to organizations and companies through use of a data-broker. The personal information provided is used by the third-party vendors to create an aggregated score or profile which may then be used to send solicitations on behalf of other organizations. These organizations will not have direct or continued access to your Personal Information unless you choose to provide it to them directly. We do not share health-related data in connection with these efforts. You, as a donor, may have your name excluded from any donor list-sharing activity by submitting an opt-out request.
