Unveiling the USS ENTERPRISE (CV-6) Stern Plate at Battleship New Jersey

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 2, 2025

UNVEILING OF THE USS ENTERPRISE (CV-6) STERN PLATE AT BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY

CAMDEN, NJ â€” Naval History and Heritage Command, the Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial, and Navy and Marine Corps Homecoming 250 will host the unveiling of the stern plate from the legendary USS Enterprise (CV-6), the most decorated warship of World War II.

Weighing nearly half a ton, the steel nameplate once adorned the stern of Enterprise as she fought in 20 campaigns and battles across the Pacific. Saved from scrapping by local resident Henry Hoffman and stewarded for decades by the town of River Vale, NJ, the plate has been entrusted to Naval History and Heritage Command and will be displayed temporarily on the Battleship New Jersey’s pier.

This unveiling marks the opening of the Navy and Marine Corps Homecoming 250 celebrations and Philadelphia Fleet Week 2025. The stern plate will remain in Camden until it takes its permanent place at the new National Museum of the United States Navy, currently under construction in Washington, D.C.
