Finding Your Way
K to 5th grade
Duration: 1 hour

This ship is a maze; can you find your way out? This program for young sailors includes a tour of the ship with hands-on navigation activities. Read a map in the officer’s wardroom to find out where New Jersey went during World War II, learn to read a bullseye so you can navigate around the ship, and learn to read a blueprint like the engineers who built her.

Main Deck Tour
All ages; accessible
Duration: 45 minutes

This tour of the main deck highlights the 16” gun turret, anti-aircraft guns, helicopter, officer’s wardroom, and more. This tour is accessible to people using mobility aids and does not have any ladders (stairs). There is an elevator available to get on to the ship.

Little Sailors

Duration: 1 hour

Ideal for our youngest sailors, this hour-long tour highlights the 16” gun turret, helicopter, officer’s wardroom, and captain’s cabin. This tour only includes one ladder (stairs) for students to navigate. End the tour with a game of Sailor Says — a Navy twist on Simon Says.

PREMIUM GUIDED TOURS
Build a Battleship
4th grade and above
Duration: 90 minutes

Can you design a better battleship than the engineers who designed New Jersey? Learn about the key components of building a battleship: propulsion, armor, and firepower. This program consists of a 45-minute tour into the citadel, showcasing the armor, engine room, and 16” gun turret and a 45-minute classroom experience where students will design their own battleships. During the classroom experience, students will use the engineering design process to select an armor scheme, propulsion plant, and armament for their ship while staying within a budget and weight limit.

Circuits and Electricity
4th grade and above
Duration: 90 minutes

We use electricity every day, but what is it? How do you power a massive ship in the middle of the ocean? This program consists of a 45-minute guided tour of the ship’s engine room before moving on the mess decks, where students will try their own hand at building circuits that power lights, motors, and more.

Veteran’s Session
Recommended for JROTC

This add-on session allows students to hear firsthand about life and service in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans will share about their career and perspective before opening the floor to questions from students.
